A RECAP ON THE LAST YEAR
I have been largely developping my photography practice, with various commissions for clients such as Dazed & Confused, ELLE UK, Clash and Monika magazines, as well as international exhibitions of my more art-based work.
In parallel, I have been freelancing as a designer for a number of magazines and publications, which remains my favorite part of my graphic design practice. I have recently done stints for ShortList, Vogue, as well as having been a regular freelancer at ELLE UK for the most part of 2010-2011.
And that's about it for now!
THE LAST FEW MONTHS...
... have been particularly busy!
Between launching my art publication "XI and la Gueule du Monde", working as a commissioned photographer for various clients, and freelancing on several design projects, there hasn't been any dead time since graduating from the RCA in July.
I am slowly updating this website with all the work I've done, which ranges from spreads for ELLE magazine, band photo shots for Dazed & Confused magazine, a photo trip to Iceland to shoot the Airwaves festival, 2 art books for photographer Gilbert Hage, an art book for artist Leslie Deere, 3 logos and an incalculable amount of work for European Alternatives. Etc etc.
It's been a schizophrenic life between being a photographer and a designer, but, now currently working on Nadine Khouri's new CD album, I am finding a perfect balance by combining my 2 passions into one collaboration!
I am currently preparing for the Royal College of Art graduating Show, in which I will exhibiting a new photographc series, Poses. Six large-scale framed portraits dealing with notions of performance, nude imagery and anonymity.
The Show opens to public view on July 26th through to 5th July, at the RCA in South Kensington, and will be showcasing graduate works of students from Communication Art & Design, Animation, Curating, Fashion Accessories and Footwear, Design Interactions, and many more departments. Another annual extravaganza...
Very excited to be part of this new crop of graduates!
This website will be changing very soon!
Although I will continue to work as a freelance designer, I will be using this web address to showcase my fine art work, photography, video and installation, and will be using a new web address for my more commercial design work. It will probably be www.rashadesign.net, but I'll confirm later...
... how I love the smell of freshly developed negatives.
Ooooh, a lot of work these days!
I'm currently working on the new issues of Europa and Naked Punch, as well as designing the London Festival of Europe program for this year's edition.
On another level, I am approaching the end of my MA at the RCA, which is exciting as much as it is quite saddening... Nothing rivals the student life of experimentation. I will be coming out of it all with a rekindled passion for photography, video art and fanciful arts and crafts.
For the SHOW 2009, I will be showing a new photography project based on female identity in nude portraiture, as well as a short video (to be screened at the BFI in early July). Also in the works is a publication grouping my portrait photography with short erotic stories, which will be sold during the SHOW exhibition as well as through my website, and in independent bookstores around London...
So keep your eyes peeled!
THE AFFLUENZA EXHIBITION
I've been selected to exhibit with 40 international artists at The Affluenza Exhibition, in an amazing industrial warehouse space in Clerkenwell. The collective show is themed around post-modern society and its consumer anxieties, and I will be exhibiting a new installation piece, "M for Stalking", about web-stalking.
The private view is on Thursday 19th March, 6.30-10.00pm, and will run until March 29th, at 187-211 St. John's Street, Clerkenwell (nearest tube: Farringdon).
There will be a number of events and talks during the show run, so check out the website for more information: www.theaffluenzaexhibition.org.
'PERFORMED NARRATIVES' EXHIBITION
I'm currently preparing for Performed Narratives, a small exhibition of works by Sanna Kuittinen and myself at the Royal College of Art's Hockney Gallery next week. The show deals with notions of performance, identity and the female body, explored through two works in video and photography.
The private view is this coming Thursday 5th February, from 6 to 8pm.The show will remain open daily until Monday 9th February, 10am to 6pm.
I've decided to put all the photography I've done over the past few years to good use, and set up a photoblog La Gueule du Monde. There's nothing sadder than pictures stashed away in digital folders, unseen and dead.
I will updating it regularly with archive images as well as new stuff I click up throughout my day-to-day (digital and film).

BACK TO SCHOOL!
Second year at RCA has officially started, after a long summer of beaching and doing pretty much nothing. So check back regularly for updates as I post new projects along the coming months...
In the meantime, I will be posting up the last couple of issues of Naked Punch, as well as a fanzine booklet I did for a Decasia night at the Whitechapel Art Gallery (www.somascene.com) and a few other bits and bobs.
I'm currently working as the acting art editor in the art department at Arena magazine until the end of August. Check out the website from more information about the publication: www.arenamagazine.co.uk
BERLIN 5th BIENNALE
I just got back from a trip to Berlin to see the 5th Biennale, and was frankly a bit disappointed with the whole setup and selection of works on show.
A couple of pieces stood out at the KW, including a hilarious video by Patricia Esquivias about Spanish history & Julio Iglesias , Folklore #2, as well as a surreal voyeur photographic narrative by Kohei Yoshiyuki.
Sinon, I was not really able to dialogue with the work as a whole, and was left rather unsatisfied.
So... I found a fotomat to play with! Much retro fun for only €2 a strip. See some of the candid results here. Auf Wiedersehen.
NEW WEBSITE (finally...)
I've at long-last updated and redesigned the website with an extensive round-up of the work I have been producing since 2003. It is a mish-mash of graphic design work, illustration, moving image, photography, brand identity, magazines, books..... basically all indicative of the range of work I've found myself undertaking in my practice.
Keep checking the News page for tidbits about what I'm up to, what's racking my brains, or anything fancy that might come my way worthy of sharing...
Hope you enjoy browsing the work!
